The Project
We were asked by a client for help in learning more about how electric vehicle (EV) lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are being reused and/or recycled. In particular, the client wanted to gain a greater understanding of how reused or refurbished EV Li-ion batteries could be used for grid storage capabilities and which companies or organizations are currently involved in deploying “second life” EV Li-ion batteries for grid storage.
Specific Area of Interest
The client also wanted details about which metals, materials, or components can be harvested from used EV Li-ion batteries as secondary raw materials. The client was also curious to learn more about the current state of end-of-life handling and disassembly of EV Li-ion batteries.
Our Impact
After doing a deep dive into this industry, we were able to locate and vet a number of suitable expert professionals with a thorough understanding of how EV Li-ion batteries are recycled, reused, and repurposed.
After speaking to these individuals, the client came away with a much clearer picture of the existing state of the market, including which organizations are involved in reclaiming used EV Li-ion batteries and their various industrial applications and disposal.
