The Project
We received an inquiry from a client who wanted to learn more about how hydrocarbon reserves are estimated in a range of countries. The company also wanted to learn more about the audit functions of major oil and gas companies in these countries and how this information is communicated to stock exchanges, banks, and government agencies.
Specific Area of Interest
The client needed this information as part of a complex project and thus required detailed data both about how oil and gas companies calculate their own estimates of existing reserves as well as the process by which independent consultants calculate these reserves. The client also wanted to learn more about existing regulatory standards for estimating reserves as well as how these are used to make forecasts.
Our Impact
Following a deep dive into our database and applying our rigorous filtration standards, we were able to locate several petroleum engineers, consultants working in the oil and gas sector, and long-term employees of major oil and gas companies who were able to speak on the topics in which the client was interested.
Subsequent to these conversations, the client was able to gain a clear understanding of exactly how hydrocarbon reserves are estimated and by what standards as well as how this information is communicated to investors and regulatory agencies.
